Book review

I stumbled upon the book Instant Weddings, by Jennifer L. Shawne, and I have to highly recommend it to everyone here. It's geared toward those with 4 months or less to plan their wedding, but I found that the advice contained within it really applies to everyone across the board.

A few highlights:

In the first chapter she recommends that each member of the couple compile a seperate list of must haves, would like to haves, and absolutely do not want to haves, and that they then get together with their lists to figure out what are the truly important elements for their wedding.

In other chapters she recommends unique, often unthought of, places to get what's needed for the wedding.

A few of my favorite reception ideas she mentions are snow cones topped with vanilla vodka for a white/ winter themed wedding, and a picnic style reception, which we're now thinking of incorporating into our plans.

The book was published in 2004, and the list price is $14.95, but I found it at the Dollar Tree for a buck, so check there first. :)

Cross-posted like mad; sorry if you see this more than twice.

a place to find a wedding service

Hi, I wrote in here a few weeks ago about a new wedding directory that I set up at www.planningmybigday.com. Well I just wanted to write and tell you that now we have been running 3 weeks we have over 122 listed businesses that serve weddings and wanted to give those getting married an opportunity to use this information. It doesnt cost anything and you dont have to sign up to the site or anything to find the service providers you need, just go to the url above and browse:) For those getting married who want to talk to others we also have a forum, which needs some good people like yourselves to get it off the ground.

If you are a wedding service provider who hasnt signed up with us yet please do consider listing your business because in 3 weeks we have had over 4000 unique hits, we are advertising in bridal magazines and all over the place. We have free listings and the opportunity to have a (paid) featured listing.

Thanks for listening.

One year,One month and four days till my wedding day

I'm so excited to have finally found a group I can share my hopes and dreams and ideas for my wedding with. Hi I'm a bride to be, and I'm having a royal renaissance wedding on October twentieth two thousand seven. It's a year away and my fiance and I have it almost completely planned. I already have my dress, my cake design, the beginnings of my silk bouquets and the menu planned. I also already have my reception and ceremony sites booked. I'm just too excited, and I want to do it all myself. I also don't believe in the idea of rushing around the last month trying to get everything done, or in saving for the wedding, I've known too many brides who end up having an emergency come up and they have to use their wedding savings for it. I believ in gradually purchasing the stuff when you have the money, then for one you're sure to get what you want and don't have to worry that you wont have the money. My fiance and I have so much to get before we can even begin saving momney for the wedding, we need tpo find a place together and get a new veicle. If we waited to save, we'd end up having to push the wedding back, and we don't want to do that.
